Keep it natural, or go solid color stain?

Today’s project is pressure washing a home with 27-year-old natural cedar siding. The owner applied a clear preservative a number of years ago, but over time the finish became dark and stained with dirt, mildew and mold. The owners now want to brighten up their house by staining it a solid color.

First things first is a good pressure washing with a mild bleach mixture.

It’s amazing. Immediately after starting pressure washing you can see an improvement.  The transformation from dark and dingy to a beautiful, rich & hearty appearance is amazing.

Now that the natural wood is exposed, the owners aren’t sure they want to apply a solid color stain.

Check out the choices in the photo.  I know what I’d do.  I would stick with the deep, warm natural siding!
